The Scottish National Antarctic Expedition conducted the first Oceanographic exploration of the Weddell Sea and discovered the northern part of the Caird Coast. This was the primary narrative of the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition 1902-04. Brown was the expedition naturalist and botanist, Mossmen was the meteorologist and Pirie was surgeon and geologist. "… The text substantiates the significant events, supplies a look at day-to-day life on the expedition, and describes many of the most interesting scientific findings. Included are stimulating descriptions of Funchal, Gough Island and Cape Town. The text also includes the cruise of the Uruguay, during which the Laurie Island party was relieved.” Michael Rosove, Antarctic Bibliography.
