The story of the tragic Greeley party and their Arctic expedition, b/w photos. Black cloth boards stamped in silver on the spine.An account of the US expedition to Greenland commanded by Lieutenant A.G. Greely. When they set out in 1879 they only intended to spend 2 winters in the Arctic but severe weather forced the relief party to turn back and they were forced to spend a third winter in the Arctic. By the time of their eventual rescue over 75% of the party had died from starvation and exposure.
