A novel in three parts telling the story through a fictional first-person narrator by the name of Roger Byam, based on actual crew member Peter Heywood. Byam, although not one of the mutineers, remains with the Bounty after the mutiny. He subsequently returns to Tahiti, and is eventually arrested and taken back to England to face a court-martial. He, and several other members of the crew, are eventually acquitted, although others are sentenced to death. A circumstance which makes The Bounty Trilogy more intriguing was that Sir Joseph Banks, Captain Bligh, and several others on the Bounty had been with Captain Cook during his famous voyages years earlier. The research Nordhoff and Hall did in the 1930s to create this trilogy arguably make it one of the finest historical novel of the 1900s.
