This is a very well written and engaging biography of Admiral Richard Byrd’s dog Igloo. Igloo traveled on expeditions to both the North and South Poles — the only dog to do so. There are other experiences which set this interesting dog apart from the norm: he was presented to the President of the United States, he was showed with ticker tape as a returning hero alongside Admiral Byrd and he appeared in countless news dispatches during his days. A distinctive feature of this book is the 100 drawings accomplished by Diana Thorne. In Byrd’s own words: “He was my good companion for five years and, as the stone over his grave testifies, He Was More Than a Friend.”
