Harper Collins Canada, 2001. First Edition — stated. 8vo, 238pp., Index. Cartographic Endpapers, silver lettering on spine, numerous blank and white illustrations. A Fine copy in Fine unclipped dustjacket and signed by Ken McGoogan.
A very well written documentation of John Rae’s accomplishments, surpassing all nineteenth-century Arctic explorers. McGoogan establishes that Rae found the last link in the long-sought Northwest Passage, and uncovered the grisly truth about the last days of Franklin’s expedition. No explorer approached Rae’s prolific record of 1,765 miles of uncharted territory surveyed; 6,555 miles hiked on snowshoes; and 6,700 miles navigated in small boats.
