Nordenskjold was first of all a scientist, and also the leader of the Swedish Antarctic Expedition. Part I was written by Nordenskjold and contains the voyage south, the first season’s work aboard ship, the establishment of the Snow Hill base, and the events at Snow Hill and the work of its party afield until its relief. Gunnar Andersson, Nordenskjold, Skottsberg (botanist), and Larsen (the ship’s captain) collectively wrote Part II.
By the time the first 1000 were printed (also available with this set of auction listings), four translations were already scheduled for production—German, French, English and Spanish—this being the First German Edition.
