Full contemporary calf with black and red morocco label backgrounds on spine with gilt lettering. Internally very clean with only moderate intermittent foxing, prior owner’s armorial label inside each front cover, “Gordon 50th Reg.” . “Gordon 50th Regt.” also penned at the top of each title page. Full leather covers in very good condition showing normal wear to extremities; spine with five raised bands, red and black morocco labels with chipping, gilt decorations in compartments.
A Scarce and complete set of the First Edition pirated Dublin edition of Cook’s voyage and discoveries in the Southern Hemisphere. Pirated Irish editions were generally the first edition accessible to the common man. Sabin 30935 (no maps or plates called for). Not in Hill or the National Maritime Museum Catalogue.
